Hikaye :
Shinta Himura küçük yaşta ailesini kaybetti ve 10 yaşında iken köle tüccarlarının yanına verildi.Bir gün bu tüccarlara hırsızlar saldırdı ve tüm kölelerle tüccarları öldürdüler tam Kenshin'i öldürecekleri sırada ortaya bir kılıç ustası çıktı ve Kenshin'i kurtardı ve Kenshin'e intikamını alması için Tanrı'nın Adeleti Kılıç tekniğini öğretti.Bu tekniği öğrenip devam etmenin tek yolu ya usta ölecek öğrenci devam ettirecek ya da öğrenci ölecek usta devam ettirecektir.Kenshin bu tekniği öğrenir.Kenhin bu tekniği kullanarak insanlara yardım edebileceğini düşünür ve kendisini Meiji Restorasyonunun içinde bulur.Kenshin daha 15 yaşında bir çok kişiyi öldürmüştür ve bu onun bir "Hitokiri" olmasını sağlamıştır.Kılıcını o kadar hızlı kullanmaktadır ki rakipleri çaresizdir ve bundan dolayı ona "Hitokiri Battousai" ismini vermişlerdir.Bir gece hiç beklenmedik bir şekilde Kenshin'in karşısına esrarengiz bir kadın çıkar.Tomoe Yukishiro.Kenshin Tomoe'yi o kasoun içinde saklar ve korur.Daha sonra Shinsengumi nin saldırısından kaçmak için karı-koca olarak bir dağ evine saklanırlar ama ikisede birbirlerine gerçekten aşık olur laikn Tomoe'nin Kenshin ile birlikte olmasının asıl sebebi intikamdır.Fakat Tomoe'de Kenshin'e aşık olur ve O'nun ölmesini istemez bunun için kendisini feda eder.Kenshin birinin ölümünün başkasının üzüntüsü olduğunu o zaman anlar ve bir daha öldürmeyeeğine yemin eder.
